Posted by B Lab on June 1, 2021
As the world grapples with a global pandemic, systemic racism, gross human inequality, and climate change, at B Lab we are leaning into our nearly 15 years of experience as drivers of systems change. Our Vision is of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet. Together, we are harnessing the unrivaled capacity of business and the capital markets and putting them to work addressing our greatest challenges: reducing inequality, meeting human needs, addressing the climate crisis, and stewarding our natural resources – at scale. Together with our global community, we are identifying and pivoting to effectively drive strategies for systemic change that are critical to advancing not just a recovery of the global economy but a “reset” of the economy to one where business plays an essential role in solving the social and environmental crises we face.
In the US and Canadian context, this vision has a distinct approach where we are cultivating, mobilizing, and amplifying the collective impact of the B Corp community and other credible business leaders who are demonstrating stakeholder capitalism in action. We are focused on fostering and mobilizing the B Community in the US & Canada to scale specific transformational business practices and public policies that systemically advance racial equity, climate justice, and corporate stakeholder governance and stakeholder capitalism. This impact trio is key to our Theory of Change, and it will be the focal point of strategy, operations, and fundraising within the US/Can market.
B Lab US & Canada is seeking a Director-level professional with racial equity focus and expertise to join our talented team and to advance this powerful vision. You will join a team with deep commitment to transforming B Lab US & Canada into an Antiracist organization and to stewarding our community to be Antiracist change-makers.
You will work collaboratively with professionals throughout the organization to advance the organization’s mission. You will also be joining a wider and very collaborative global team, including numerous JEDI-focused professionals, that advance our Antiracism and Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) work. In addition to the specific work you will be leading externally within the US & Canada community, you will work collaboratively with these professionals and across the organization to help meet our global JEDI objectives, syncing work where relevant and working together to ensure an internally and externally consistent approach. While we believe that inclusion is everyone’s job at B Lab, thought partners for you include our Director of JEDI – B Lab Global, our global JEDI Specialist, as well as the US/Can Community Engagement Manager who is focused on the Black, Indigenous and People of Color segments of the B Corp community. You will utilize your first 4 to 6 months to establish the strategy and will hire a full-time program manager to support you and the strategy in mid-2021.
Core Job Function: The primary accountability of the Director of Racial Equity & Justice will be to develop, refine, and operationalize our racial equity strategy within the US and Canadian context and within the frame of our established theory of change. Given the scale, intersectionality, and complexity of the challenges this strategy will attempt to address, your work with be experimental, iterative, and a constantly evolving work in progress.
