Director for Pennsylvania Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty

Pennsylvania Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty (PAUADP) is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, experienced full time director for its office in Philadelphia or Harrisburg. PAUADP is a non- profit 501c3 organization with more than 9,000 individual members, supporters, and constituents throughout Pennsylvania. The organization seeks to build a grassroots network to facilitate statewide activity resulting in a moratorium on executions, and ultimately, abolition of the death penalty in the Commonwealth. The organization has four regional chapters/affiliates and works with more than fifty organizations across Pennsylvania. The position will require extensive travel throughout the state. Responsibilities include

? Build PAUADP membership and help to establish new chapters by direct outreach, public education, organization of initial meetings, and leadership development.

? Support established chapters by guiding activities, helping with event planning, and maintaining a steady stream of communication between the board of directors, staff, chapter leaders, and volunteers.

? In conjunction with the board of directors and national organizations, develop strategy, messaging, and educational materials for the campaign for a moratorium.

? Organize speaking engagements and public education events in strategic areas to support the moratorium campaign.

? Oversee the maintenance of PAUADP?s database, email listservs, and website. Create monthly updates for chapter leaders, quarterly newsletters for members, and action alerts as needed.

? Coordinate volunteer efforts as necessary throughout the state.

? Communicate with the media on issues related to the death penalty in Pennsylvania.

? In conjunction with the board of directors and coalition members, help coordinate the legislative campaign of the PA Moratorium Coalition and schedule strategic planning meetings with the coalition.

? Oversee implementation of financial strategy, including working with the board of directors to identify and develop major donors, assist in writing grant proposals, compose fundraising letters, and manage financial records.

Qualifications:

? Experience with issue-based grassroots organizing and/or campaign coordination.

? Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines, handle adversity, and balance multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work flexible hours.

? Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to write imaginatively for multiple audiences, comfort having work edited.

? Demonstrated ability/comfort in juggling multiple, competing demands from different constituencies. Ability to work professionally and cordially with representatives from varied organizations and religious institutions.

? Fundraising experience, including grant writing, is preferred.

? Excellent computer skills, including electronic communications, Microsoft applications, desktop publishing, website development, and database maintenance.

? Comfort working both independently and as part of a team. Ability to be self directed while maintaining communication with the board of directors.

? Opposition to the death penalty and strong commitment to social justice.

Salary/Benefits: $35,000/year plus benefits.
