Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its student success and diversity. West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Student Affairs invites applicants for the Director of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs the Director of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs is responsible for overseeing both academic service-learning initiatives and volunteer opportunities for students and student organizations while working with over 100 regional non-profit agencies. Approximately 75% of the Director’s time is spent working with faculty providing resource materials for service-learning courses, locating service placements for students, and giving class presentations on community service and volunteerism. The Director also coordinates a service-learning faculty work-group that promotes linkages with other faculty and serves as a campus resource regarding the pedagogy related to service-learning courses. The Director’s other responsibilities (25%) focuses on connections with community agencies through an annual volunteer fair/listing of volunteer opportunities and agency needs, establishing direct relationships with student organizations on community service efforts, and coordinating a number of special campus-wide volunteer and service events throughout the year. Other responsibilities include the preparation of semester Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs Reports that document service-learning and volunteer hours; in 2010-2011 there were 293,583 hours of service recorded. The Director also supervises a number of student staff, the AmeriCorps Scholars, a graduate assistant, and a secretary. The department’s accomplishments and reputation has played a key role in West Chester University being recognized for exemplary community service/engagement with selection by the Carnegie Foundation for the 2010 Community Engagement Classification and also for continued selection/membership on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll since 2005.
Requirements: Master’s Degree in higher education/student affairs, counselor education, or closely-related discipline. Minimum of three – five years of professional post-graduate experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate direct involvement with planning, facilitation, and commitment to significant community service projects, experience with the outcomes/goals of service-learning, experience with campus student organizations, and working collaboratively, especially with faculty, within a higher education environment. Excellent communication, organizational, public relations, marketing, project management, and computer skills are also required. Ability and disposition to interact favorably with diverse groups of students, faculty, administrators, staff members, and external publics.
Salary range to mid 50’s commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits package including tuition fee waiver for self and dependents. The filling of this position is contingent upon available funding.
