UNI: The Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative (UNI) is a major component of the University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) program of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships (NCCP) at the University of Pennsylvania. UNI’s Program and Curriculum Development Director is a core member of UNI’s leadership team. UNI’s mission is to engage, educate and empower youth, university students, and community members to build a just and sustainable food system. UNI’s approach to community health improvement focuses on nutrition education, youth empowerment, food sovereignty, social justice and physical fitness.

Position Overview: UNI is seeking a talented professional to join our team as Director of Programs & Curriculum. The Director will oversee UNI’s school based Nutrition Education program and identify and create curricula for UNI’s Youth Development program models. UNI conducts Nutrition Education programs in 20 Philadelphia public schools reaching more than 10,000 K-12 students per month. The program has recently been expanded to include an Adult Senior component reaching hundreds of community members through hands-on cooking workshops at sites across West and Southwest Philadelphia. Additionally, UNI organizes a year-round Youth Development Program that provides paid internships for high school students to grow and sell produce and teach healthy cooking classes. Key responsibilities of the Director include: curricula compilation and adaptation for staff members to use within the school-based program; training staff members in the implementation of nutrition education curricula, organizing professional development for staff in lesson planning, youth empowerment, inquiry-based learning and service learning, and directly supervising Program Managers and Coordinators. Additionally, the Director will build upon existing lesson plans within the Youth Development model to develop curriculum in topics including, but not limited to food sovereignty, culinary arts, food systems, social justice, politics of food, people’s history, systems of power, and communication across difference. Finally, the Director will support UNI’s Multicultural Committee to train staff to deliver lessons with a justice lens and ensure that lessons address systems of power and build multiculturalism. The Director will have the overarching responsibility of reviewing and ensuring that all lesson plans and curriculum developed or used by staff are aligned with organizational mission, values, and pedagogy. The Director will also spport program planning, grants and fiscal management, and staff supervision.
