Public/Private Ventures (P/PV) is a national nonprofit intermediary organization, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with offices in New York City and Oakland, California, that seeks to improve the effectiveness of social policies, programs and community initiatives.
P/PV?s work addresses a wide range of critical social issues, and involves a varied group of sectors and institutions. This diversity provides us with the perspective and experience to assist policymakers, funders and communities in setting priorities and identifying realistic opportunities for advancing promising or proven policies and practices.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Director will oversee the management of 20 community-based after-school programs; provide supervision to site staff and subcontractors; provide technical assistance and conduct and/or facilitate training in balanced literacy; and create a continual system of quality improvement feedback with P/PV staff, after-school site staff and site directors.
Specific Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
? Providing ongoing on- and off-site technical assistance to Philadelphia-based after-school programs;
? Overseeing literacy coaches responsible for assisting sites in implementing a balanced literacy program;
? Creating a continual system of quality improvement feedback with P/PV staff, literacy coaches, after- school site staff and site directors (e.g., scheduled conference calls, memos, etc.);
? Overseeing (and sometimes conducting) training in all components of balanced literacy and in reading assessment administration procedures;
? Scheduling and planning (and sometimes conducting) monthly technical assistance workshops, based on specific content area or specific needs;
? Developing curriculum as needed;
? Working with P/PV staff and site staff to ensure timely collection, analysis, interpretation of program data;
? Completing grant-reporting procedures, budgeting requirements and grant writing (when necessary);
? Developing communication tools (e.g., websites, newsletters, etc.), planning press events to promote the Philadelphia YET Program; and
? Other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
? Masters degree in education preferable;
? At least eight years of classroom, clinical or related instructional experience;
? Previous experience in grant-reporting procedures, budgeting and grant writing; and
? Must be able to travel within Philadelphia area on a regular basis.
Knowledge and Skill
? Ability to train site staff on balanced literacy programming and reading assessment procedures; Excellent relational skills, administrative skills, and written and oral communication skills;
? Is proficient in Microsoft Word; communicates well through email;
? Ability to take initiative, think creatively and work collaboratively;
? Spanish proficiency very desirable.
Problem Solving/Decision Making
? Make decisions independently;
? Tailor trainings and technical assistance to fit the changing needs (i.e., staffing, professional development, resources, time constraints, etc.) of after-school programs;
? Translating research recommendations and funder mandates into clear action plans for programmers and practitioners; and
? Adjusting approach, when necessary, through modifications in programming in the interest of helping program quality improvement.
