Job Overview:
Drexel University’s Weight, Eating, and Lifestyle Science (WELL) Center is hiring an Director, Operations. The Director, Operations is responsible for overseeing the administration, budgets, and strategic plan of the Center. Other key duties include development, marketing, and community outreach.
The WELL Center (opening date: July 1, 2017) is an interdisciplinary clinical research center with a mission to develop, test and disseminate new behavioral and technological solutions to the problems of obesity, poor diet, sedentariness, and disordered eating. The Center, which, at its inception will be situated within the Drexel University College of Arts and Sciences, will be borne out of the current Laboratory for Innovations in Health-Related Behavior Change (http://drexel.edu/weightloss).
The Center will have research, clinical and training missions. The primary mission of the WELL Center will be to identify the core risk and maintenance factors for eating disorders, obesity, and sedentary behavior, and to develop, evaluate and disseminate new behavioral and technological solutions for these challenging-to-treat concerns. The WELL Center will include a clinic, set to open in 2018, serving the Philadelphia metropolitan area that will provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based treatment for obesity, eating disorders, and related conditions, and will also provide bariatric surgery evaluations and nutritional counseling. The WELL Center will also serve as a top-notch training site for professionals, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduates.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required (Master’s preferred) in business administration/related field or psychology/public health with a minimum of three years of management/administration experience in a university research center, knowledge of National Institutes of Health grant procedures, experience with financial management and development.
Essential Functions:
The Director, Operstions position is designed to support the Center’s mission as follows:
- Expansion:
- Oversee hiring efforts for research faculty, research staff, administrative staff, a clinic director, and clinic staff . coordinate efforts with the University to obtain, design, and/or renovate space for the Center. Formulate and execute a short, medium, and long-term vision for the Center’s growth and success.
- Research:
- Assist in identifying well-matched extramural funding mechanisms, support applications for the National Institutes of Health and other grants. Manage researchproject budgets. Oversee research staff hiring and pay.
- Train and oversee staff in best practices for data management. As needed, manage research projects. Financial planning and management. Work with principle investigators to prepare a comprehensive budget.
- Research funding sources.
- Oversee development of fundraising plans. Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.Reputation building and development. Enhance the reputation of the center locally and nationally through press releases, social media, website content. Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the Center.
- Work with Institutional Advancement to identify and forge relationships with potential donors to the Center. Establishment/oversight of the Center treatment clinic. Hire a clinic director and assist the director in advertising the clinic and generating a referral network.
- Set up and manage a billing system. Set up and manage an electronic medical records system and a video supervision system. Oversee Center training components Set up and administrate training workshops for professionals.
- Set up and administrate training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, including “co-ops” and practicum opportunities.
- Administrative oversight and support:
- Provide managerial and financial oversight of Center personnel and resources.
Oversee the overall Center budget, set-up/monitor/approve personnel timesheets, effort allocations and labor redistributions.
