The Director of Moelis Access Science is responsible for partnerships between Penn and West Philadelphia K-12 public schools that are Science, Technology Engineering, and Math (STEM)-focused.
Moelis Access Science (MAS) is a major component of the Netter Center’s University-Assisted Community School (UACS) programs. MAS programs operate during the school day, after school, and summer. All MAS and Netter Center programs are designed so that all students, K-16+, benefit from the partnerships.
Job Description
Founded in 1992, the Barbara and Edward Netter Center for Community Partnerships is the University’s primary vehicle for advancing civic and community engagement at Penn. It brings together the resources and assets of both the University and the wider community to help solve universal problems such as poverty, health inequities, environmental sustainability, and inadequate, unequal education as they are manifested in the University’s local geographic area of West Philadelphia and Philadelphia at large. The Netter Center develops and helps implement democratic, mutually transformative, place-based partnerships between Penn and West Philadelphia that advance research, teaching, learning, practice, and service and improve the quality of life on campus and in the community. The Netter Center works with and serves as a model for other higher education institutions across the United States and around the world.
The Director of Moelis Access Science is responsible for partnerships between Penn and West Philadelphia K-12 public schools that are Science, Technology Engineering, and Math (STEM)-focused. The director will create new and support existing STEM partnerships. Moelis Access Science (MAS) is a major component of the Netter Center’s University-Assisted Community School (UACS) programs. MAS programs operate during the school day, after school, and summer. All MAS and Netter Center programs are designed so that all students, K-16+, benefit from the partnerships. MAS includes three main areas of programming.
First, the Director will help develop and implement STEM-related academically based community service (ABCS) courses. ABCS integrates service with research, teaching, and learning. ABCS works to improve the quality of life and learning in the community and the quality of learning and scholarship in the university through collaborative problem-solving, K-16+. ABCS helps students become active, creative, contributing citizens of a democratic society. ABCS courses operate in several schools and departments.
Second, the Director will supervise a Fellows program that includes of approximately 20 Graduate Fellows and over 100 Undergraduate Fellows. These fellows are comprised of interns, work-study students, and volunteers who partner with teachers and classrooms to advance hands-on and inquiry-based STEM education.
Third, the Director will work with partners from Perelman School of Medicine, Penn Veterinary Medicine, and Penn Life Sciences Management Program to oversee the implementation of the Health Careers Educational Pipeline Program. This program enrolls high school students year-round in grades 9-12 programming.
