Director of Family University, Action for Early Learning

Drexel University seeks a Director of Family University as part of its Action for Early Learning (AFEL) early childhood education improvement initiative. The ideal candidate will have a Masters level education with expertise in early childhood education, child development and family engagement, and a minimum of five years of community-based experience. This is a full-time position with Drexel University with funding for three years.

The Director will be part of the AFEL Leadership Team and will assist in the creation of and ultimately direct a community-based Family University, which will establish a family network to support children’s education success by increasing West Philadelphia families’ knowledge of:

  • child development;
  • how to support children’s learning opportunities;
  • the importance of having appropriate expectations for children;
  • high quality early childhood curriculum and activities; and
  • developing resiliency in children.

AFEL’s Family University will share AFEL’s goals to empower parents as their children’s first teachers, ensure children are Kindergarten ready and reading at grade level by the end of third grade and support children’s long-term education success.
