Director of Education, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

The Director of Education reports directly to the Executive VP of the Kimmel Center, Inc. Their primary responsibility is to oversee, create, develop, facilitate and supervise all education programs for the organization. The Director is also responsible for developing significant community and arts partnerships within the region toward the goal of the Kimmel Center campus being a major host and partner for arts education activities.
Essential Functions:
- Create, develop, and facilitate all educational programs and activities of the Education department at the Kimmel Center
- Create a synergistic path for collaborative relationships between the Kimmel Center Educational programs and the Education programs of the resident companies
- Develop significant community and arts partnerships that provide educational curriculum, and arts experiences, to a broad array of Philadelphia students
- Serve as liaison to the Resident Companies for the MERCK education programs
- Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the School District of Philadelphia
- Maintain relationships with performing arts agencies and institutions of higher learning
- Represent the Kimmel Center Educational programs at industry conferences and to the greater Philadelphia area and beyond
- Administer Education department and related programs such as Summer Arts Camps
- Manage the Education Department annual budget
- Collaborate with Programming and Artistic areas of the organization to identify opportunities for educational activities utilizing KCI presented and produced content
- Collaborate with the Development Department and other key personnel to initiate and capitalize on fundraising opportunities for KCI Education programs
- Coordinate Kimmel Center participation in city-wide initiatives for Education and Youth
- Ensure the educational activities of the Kimmel Center are inclusive and diverse, and serve the educational needs of the broader student community
- Recruit and evaluate talent both full time and adjunct for the Education Department
- Align customer service within the standards of KCI
- Other relevant duties that may be assigned
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Arts and Education or related area
- Ten (10) years of experience as an Education Administrator
- Experience as an Educator
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Highly collaborative instincts
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, utilized both internally and externally
- Knowledge of current pedagogical practices
- Excellent management skills
- Strong sense of teamwork
- Customer service oriented
Physical and Non-Physical Demands:
- Office Environment
- Some nights and weekends
