Job description
Since 1921, Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA) has been on a mission to help women and girls around the world who face obstacles such as poverty, violence and teen pregnancy to realize their potential and live their dreams. With nearly 1300 clubs in 20 countries and territories, SIA has about 30,000 members working together in six languages to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. SIA is committed to investing in programs that have a sustainable, measurable change for women and girls. Their Dream Programs ensure women and girls have access to the education and training they need to reach their full potential. Soroptimist’s main program, Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards for Women, has disbursed more than$30 million to almost 20,000 women since 1972. Its newest program, Dream It, Be It, targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Soroptimist also powers LiveYourDream.org, a North American online community with more than 90,000 supporters that provides on and offline opportunities for volunteer action benefiting women and girls.
POSITION SUMMARY:
SIA is actively recruiting for a Director of Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director will be responsible for planning and directing fundraising strategies to secure the revenue necessary to meet the goals of SIA’s strategic plan.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
Fundraising Strategy
- Develops strategies to retain current donors and expand donor base to fuel increased impact of SIA programs, in line with the strategic plan.
- Develops and executes SIA’s annual fundraising plan.
- Directs the major gifts program and processes; manages a portfolio of major gift prospects.
- Reviews, edits and approves key fundraising messaging through solicitations, articles and other fundraising communications for the website, Soroptimist Summary, and Best for Women.
Analysis
- Tracks and analyzes progress toward fundraising goals.
- Compiles and analyzes fundraising metrics and compares to industry benchmarks (donor history, monthly giving growth, donor trends, retention and attrition rates, etc.)
- Monitors and reports on performance of all fundraising appeals and testing results.
- Projects actual fundraising performance against annual plan and course corrects as necessary.
- Monitors philanthropic trends as they relate to SIA and makes recommendations to the organization on fundraising.
Management
- Works with senior director of development to determine, monitor and control annual contributions revenue and fundraising expenses.
- Motivates and delegates tasks to team members, as well as across departments, to create a positive, productive working environment.
- Assures implementation of cost-effective fund development programs, employing economy while maintaining quality and solid return on investment.
- Oversees the development of testing strategies that are data-informed.
- Oversees the production, coordination, and implementation for all fundraising solicitations.
- Oversees and ensures accuracy of fundraising systems, databases and reporting.
- Oversees the timely acknowledgment of all contributions.
- Oversees donor recognition programs and donor stewardship activities.
- Oversees the accuracy and relevancy of fundraising content on SIA websites.
Volunteer Management
- Serves as staff liaison for region fundraising chairs and the donor relations taskforce
- Trains and guides the work of region fundraising chairs and the donor relations taskforce and holds conference calls.
- Develops presentations and training for the board, donor relations taskforce, region fundraising chairs, and other fundraising liaisons.
- Supports volunteers, staff and clubs and regions in their efforts to raise funds for SIA programs.
Additional Duties
- Identifies new funding opportunities available to SIA.
- Participates in SIA Board meetings, Fundraising Council meetings, conference calls, workshops, SIA convention as requested.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
