The Cultural Alliance’s mission is to lead, strengthen and give voice to a diverse cultural sector that is making Philadelphia a world-class region to live, work and play. The Alliance’s work promotes that mission through initiatives that leverage arts and culture to inspire individuals and build community and civic engagement. These efforts include connecting cultural resources to community needs; providing direct services for nonprofit cultural organizations; leading cultural research, advocacy and policy work; and producing direct marketing programs for cultural consumers.

The Director of Development advances the Cultural Alliance’s mission and programs by developing and implementing short- and long-term strategies to meet the organization’s contributed income goals. This position manages the full-time Associate Director of Development position.
Primary Role & Responsibilities

Develop and implement an annual and long-range fundraising plan.
Collaborate with senior management team to create, cultivate, and steward relationships with institutional funders and individual donors.
Oversee preparation of effective funder communications, including proposals, reports, case statements, and appeal letters. Supervise grants calendar and production of timely funder communications.
Develop and implement individual giving strategies to cultivate both major donors and grassroots supporters
Generate management reports and budgets regarding progress toward foundation, government, and individual giving goals. Review/reconcile development results with Finance department as part of the budget process.
Manage Board Development committee and engage Board members in achieving fundraising goals.
Manage Development staff, including recruitment, supervision, coaching, performance reviews, etc. and represent their work within the Alliance.
Serve on the senior leadership team.
Serve as an ambassador for the Cultural Alliance in the community. Cultivate relationships with key community leaders and organizations to enhance fundraising effectiveness.

Skills and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, and a Master’s degree is preferred. The Director of Development must possess excellent leadership and development skills. Previous development experience, as well as knowledge of the regional cultural and political landscape, are also desired. The Director of Development should have a demonstrated track record of achievement in these areas, with a proven ability to develop strategies and implement successful plans of action.
