Job Description
Director of Development & Marketing

Summary:
The Philadelphia Education Fund seeks an accomplished fundraising professional with a proven track record of creating and implementing a comprehensive development and marketing program with primary emphasis on identifying and securing funds through grants and donor gifts to support the work of the organization. The Director of Development & Marketing will demonstrate initiative, drive, a collaborative style, superior organizational, oral, and writing skills and the ability to work under pressure. A Bachelors Degree and a minimum of five years successful fundraising and marketing experience are required.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Development & Marketing is responsible for completing and implementing a comprehensive development and marketing strategy, designed to increase and diversify the flow of unrestricted and program-supporting grants and gifts.

Development Responsibilities
q Complete and implement a five year strategic development plan in collaboration with the Leadership Team;
q Research funding opportunities and cultivate and maintain relationships with major corporate, foundation and individual funders and prospects;
q Write grant applications (to private, federal and state sources), donor letters and other development vehicles and communications; collaborate with Director of Finance and program directors to develop grant proposal budgets; write grant reports;
q Maintain records and databases related to grants and donations;
q Initiate outreach to corporate and philanthropic entities and other potential partners; cultivate, promote and facilitate the development of relations between potential funders and the Executive Director;
q Prepare regular development reports for the Board of Directors;
q Supervise the Director of Development, Philadelphia Scholars.

Marketing Responsibilities
q Oversee the development and implementation of a marketing plan aimed to increase visibility and diversify revenue streams;
q Develop and manage promotional and publicity materials and activities, in collaboration with the Communications Associate and program directors, to support the organization?s overall visibility and specific events;
q Undertake marketing and public relations activities (including special events) to keep current and prospective funders and donors, as well as partners, informed of the organization?s accomplishments, capacity and funding needs;
q Supervise the Communications Associate.

Qualifications:
q Strategic and creative thinker with vision to accomplish long term goals while implementing immediate projects;
q At least five years of successful fundraising experience in major gifts and grants, as well as marketing experience; demonstrated ability to initiate, organize and complete fundraising and marketing projects;
q Excellent communications skills, both written and oral, supported by a strong facility in using technological tools;
q Demonstrated experience in successfully preparing clear and compelling grant proposals, solicitation letters and other development/marketing communications;
q Comfort in soliciting potential corporate, foundation and government funders;
q Ability to work well independently and as part of a team;
q Excellent interpersonal skills;
q Excellent organizational skills including the ability to work quickly under deadline and to handle many tasks at one time;
q Experience working with diverse constituencies;
q A minimum of a Bachelor?s degree.

Reports to:
The Director of Development & Marketing reports to the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Education Fund and serves on the organization?s Leadership Team.
