Director of Development and Marketing, Center for Literacy

The Center for Literacy is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. A full time Director of Development and Marketing is being sought who will diversify funding and increase brand recognition of the organization through individual, corporate, foundation, and government fundraising; use of social media as well as other media; and the marketing of organization publications and services.

Responsibilities include:
•    Development of innovative funding alternatives, including the use of venture philanthropy, product development and marketing, service development and sales, and investment based models;
•    Enhanced major gift prospecting within the private sector, including individuals, foundations, and corporations;
•    Development and implementation of integrated communications and donor acquisition systems, emphasizing digital media;
•    Development of collateral as needed to support needs of the organization’s services;
•    Enhanced donor and partner network cultivation;
•    Development of fundraising plan in support of long term goals and objectives, with specific emphasis on laying groundwork for major (capital) campaign;
•    Support for Board committees on Resource Development and Public Relations;
•    Research sources of governmental support for organization programs and prepare proposals to acquire this support;
•    Solicit contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations;
•    Create, organize, and manage special recognition events and fund raising events;
•    Increase public awareness of the organization, its programs, and services;
•    Develop and maintain media relations to ensure frequent and accurate coverage of the organization and organization events in the media;
•    Publicize the accomplishments of the organization through press releases, public service announcements, and other similar types of notices to television, radio, social media, and print media;
•    Publish an organization newsletter (3 times a year);
•    Produce promotional materials such as brochures, fliers, and annual reports;
•    Provide publications and fee-for-services offered by developing markets, working with fellow directors to develop organization expertise, and publicizing organization capabilities;
•    Play a strong strategic role in the organization as part of the leadership team;
•    Provide leadership to staff and consultant support in grant writing and public relations.

Qualifications:
•    Bachelors degree; graduate study preferred.
•    3-5 years relevant experience. This could be the right position for a strong performer and go-getter, as evidenced by previous accomplishments, who is ready to move up.
•    Familiarity with grant writing, obtaining governmental contracts, running annual giving campaigns, and special fundraisers.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills – both writing and oral.
•    Computer skills – proficiency with databases, word-processing, and spreadsheets. Experience with fundraising/donor software preferred.

Compensation for position will be based on experience.
