Job Title: Director of Development

Our client is a regional environmental nonprofit organization located in Wilmington, Delaware. Under the direction of the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development (DOD) is responsible for overseeing and growing development efforts in order to keep pace with the intentions of the firm’s Strategic Plan. The Director of Development works closely with the Executive Director and staff to grow the organization’s base of support, particularly from private donors.

The DOD is responsible, working with staff and the Development Committee, to develop a strategic work plan for fund development, including a calendar, budget, and initiatives for engaging the full Board in implementing the work plan collaboratively with staff. He or she is also responsible for overseeing the development and periodic refreshment of the overall Case for Support, Case Statements for key program areas, and other fund-raising related communications in concert with the strategic marketing plan. He or she oversees the development of gift acceptance policies, establishes and maintains the department’s reporting practices, including tracking of sources and uses of funds, designs and ensures execution of donor recognition, including stewardship protocols and practices, and leads communications with and training of the Board. The DOD will oversee Donor Fundraising, Events, Grants, and develop a strategy to increase and maintain contacts with Donors.

Desired Professional Experience:
● 5-7 years minimum professional experience within a full-service development office
● Hands on experience with creation of comprehensive development plan including major donor and planned giving programs
● Successful track record in securing sponsorships, gifts, and grants in the $25,000+ range
● Experience managing an annual giving, foundation and corporate grants program

Desired Professional Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of fundraising strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal and leadership skills to collaborate tactfully and effectively with constituencies and staff
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to schedule and complete multiple short-term and long-term tasks, detailed oriented and meet deadlines
  • Some evening and weekend work is required, along with the ability to travel throughout the tristate area as needed for meetings and events
  • Board presentation experience.
  • Environmental and/or Land Conservation background preferred

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree
· CFRE certification a plus

Technical Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
Proven experience using fundraising and/or contact management software such as Wealth Engine, Fundraiser Professional, Salesforce
