KIPP Philadelphia Schools (KPS) is a network of free, public, open-enrollment schools for historically underserved students in Philadelphia, PA. KPS’s vision is to achieve its mission at critical mass – a cluster of schools in Philadelphia – thereby reinvigorating public education in this city through the performance of its students and the leadership of its educators. KPS currently operates four schools, and plans to expand to ten schools within the next five years, enrolling 4,400 students each year.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Managing Director of KIPP Through College, the Director of College Placement is responsible for creating and executing programming aimed at ensuring all Promise alumni (KPS middle school alumni not attending a KIPP high school) secure an appropriate post-secondary plan, including matriculating to a best-fit college or securing the required credentials for a specified career pathway.
This person will accomplish this by: developing relationships with Promise alumni and relevant stakeholders to provide them with the knowledge, skills, tools, and support necessary to matriculate to college, employing effective, data-informed college Match practices throughout the counseling and placement process, and working collaboratively with KTC’s Alumni Support team to ensure a seamless matriculation transition process for all Promise alumni.
- Develop knowledge of the local labor market and employer needs and expectations
- Develop relationships with Promise alumni and relevant stakeholders to provide them with the knowledge, skills, tools and support necessary to matriculate to college
- Serve as the college counselor for Promise alumni in their Junior and Senior year of high school , advising them on academic planning, college Match practices, college research, and college affordability
- Maintain successful monthly contact with all Promise alumni in their Junior and Senior year
- Support Promise alumni in registering for standardized tests, and analyzing score reports and high school transcripts in preparation for the college placement process
- Develop and deliver parent and alumni facing workshops on all topics relevant to the college placement process
- Establish and maintain relationships with high schools attended by Promise alumni
- Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with colleges, universities, outreach programs, and scholarship organizations
- Match eligible Promise alumni to summer enrichment programs and assist them with the application process
- Employ effective, data-informed college Match practices throughout the counseling and placement
process- Manage all Promise alumni demographic information and academic, application and enrollment
data in the KIPP Alumni Database on the Salesforce platform - Actively monitor progress towards individual alumni level goals including application
completion and submission - Remain abreast of relevant developments concerning all aspects of college placement: including financial aid, scholarships, applications, and admissions standards
- Work collaboratively with the Directors of College Placement at KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy in developing the regional college counseling program for KPS
- Develop and utilize KTC network relationships to learn of and share promising practices for positive student outcomes
- Manage all Promise alumni demographic information and academic, application and enrollment
- Work collaboratively with KTC’s Alumni Support team to ensure a seamless matriculation transition process for all Promise alumni
- Develop caseload transition process for all college bound seniors
- Work with the Directors of Alumni Support to ensure all college-bound alumni have a successful transition to college
- Provide pre-college benchmark data to Alumni Support team reflecting alumni’s academic, financial and socio-emotional status
- Work with Director of Alumni Career Development to implement support and transition strategy for alumni identified for ―Embark‖—KPS’s career pathway program
- Assist other members of the KTC Team and Regional Office team with projects as they arise
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience helping educationally underserved students and their families navigate college admission, financial aid, and scholarship application procedures preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making; facilitate various size working groups, work collaboratively, and; gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports
- Flexible and able to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Compensation
Salary is competitive with other Charter Management Organizations (CMOs) and commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package included.
