Director Of Annual Giving, Moving Traditions

The Director of Annual Giving is a key member of the Communications and Development team, and has primary responsibility for the development and execution of a comprehensive, multi-channel annual giving program in support of fundraising goals. They are responsible for raising awareness of and support for Moving Traditions within key constituencies, most notably parents of our current and former participants and annual fund donors. Candidates should have deep familiarity with Judaism and be passionate about topics pertaining to gender, social justice, and feminism. The Director of Annual Giving will be based full-time in Moving Traditions’ Philadelphia office, and will report to the Chief of Communications and Development.

The Director of Annual Giving will:

  • Develop a keen understanding of our key constituencies;
  • Inspire current and potential donors through the creation of useful and meaningful content about our mission and our work;
  • Identify and aid in stewarding major donors and inspiring prospects to move from annual fund (lower-level) donors to higher levels of giving;
  • Develop and implement strategy for all aspects of annual giving programs, including direct mail, online appeals, social media, and special events;
  • Support the Chief of External Relations in cultivation of major donors, including but not limited to the creation of materials and support for event planning and logistics and conducting background research on donor interests and giving histories;
  • Work to ensure that branding and messaging is consistent across materials used for recruitment, marketing, training, programming, and fundraising.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the creation, development, and implementation of annual giving outreach strategy and marketing materials, including annual report and monthly emails.
  • Craft direct mail and email appeals for donor constituencies, including current and former parents of participants, major donors, and current and former group leaders, and investigate best outreach approach for program alumni.
  • Create and meet appeal timelines.
  • Support the development and creation of marketing collateral, including sales and recruitment tools.
  • Support thought leadership and PR efforts, including speaking events, bylined articles, and story pitching.
  • Obtain bids from, and manage relationships and work closely with graphic designers, mailhouse/printers, etc. on fabrication and distribution of physical materials used in marketing and development outreach.
  • Update, customize and manage thank-you letters for individual donors, and work with the Business Office to ensure that acknowledgments are sent in a timely manner.
  • Support activities in other departments across Moving Traditions as they pertain to communications needs.
  • Supervising work of staff who generate acknowledgements and pledge letters.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information as it pertains to donors across all constituencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of relevant nonprofit or industry experience with a demonstrated successful track record of annual giving program design and implementation.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to conceptualize printed and digital collateral.
  • Creativity in content development and messaging, translating materials for multiple audiences and channels.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft applications and experience with donor database software required.
  • Proficient in the use of Constant Contact or other email marketing tools, social media platforms, and website CMS. Working knowledge of design applications (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) a plus.
