DIRECTOR, GREATER PHILADELPHIA COALITION AGAINST HUNGER
The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger (GPCAH) is seeking a new Director to succeed its current Director. GPCAH fights hunger in Southeastern Pennsylvania through education, outreach, and advocacy. We aim to empower emergency food providers, to inform and mobilize concerned citizens, and to help shape public policy. Through our outreach efforts, we are also working to improve participation in and access to the Food Stamp Program. GPCAH has six fulltime staff, several AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers, and many community and student volunteers. This vibrant, fast-paced staff maximizes their impact on reducing hunger in the Philadelphia region through hard work, creativity, collaboration, and a strategic use of resources. Over the last few years our Food Stamp Enrollment Campaign and the Walk Against Hunger, an annual fundraising event, have leveraged several million dollars in benefits or food to local low-income families and their communities. GPCAH operates under the fiscal and legal umbrella of the SHARE Food Program, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The GPCAH Director reports to the Executive Director of the SHARE Food Program, Inc.
Primary responsibilities include:
? Provide leadership and vision working with the GPCAH Steering Committee to create and then implement a strategic plan every two years or as needed.
? Oversee advocacy and education initiatives that reduce hunger and increase nutrition assistance to low-income families and individuals.
? Oversee grassroots leadership development and capacity building for food cupboard and soup kitchen coordinators.
? Oversee the Food Stamp Enrollment Campaign to develop and improve strategies for food stamp outreach and advocacy in the region.
? Direct the overall management of the Walk Against Hunger including raising corporate support, developing and implementing a public relations and communications strategy to increase visibility and participation.
? Hire, supervise, support, and evaluate staff and AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers
? Develop operating and program budgets and provide strong financial management and oversight. Manage finances under the direction of the SHARE Food Program, Inc. Executive Director
? Develop and execute a broad fundraising plan that includes foundation, corporate and individual support.
The ideal candidate will possess:
? Passion and commitment for fighting hunger through education, outreach and advocacy.
? Experience in coalition building.
? Demonstrated keen sense of the value of the grassroots community that fights hunger by distributing food packages and serving meals to those in need.
? Experience in planning and implementing special events; proven track record in raising corporate support; commitment to growing the Walk Against Hunger.
? Demonstrated strong financial management skills; experience in managing budgets and raising program and operating funds.
? Skill in communications, public relations and media work; excellent writing skills.
? Staff supervision and management skills with demonstrated ability to build a team; experience in managing a dedicated and committed staff. Leads by example by assisting whenever needed to get the job done.
? Working knowledge of federal, state and local government policy related to hunger and poverty.
? Comfort with diversity especially along racial, economic, and religious lines.
? Capacity to ?envision? the next new initiative for fighting hunger that fits within our mission and goals.
? Demonstrated ?executive presence? to make effective and persuasive presentations
Must have a minimum of five years experience in management and a bachelor’s degree. A graduate degree in nonprofit management, social work, public administration, or related fields strongly preferred. Salary and benefits commensurate with skills and education. A car and drivers license strongly preferred.
