The United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s mission is to harness, leverage and strategically invest the collective power of donors, advocates and volunteers, to drive measurable results that improve the lives of people in our region. We have an excellent opportunity for a seasoned individual to join our team as Director, Financial Stability. The ideal candidate will provide overall strategic direction and lead the development and execution of financial stability strategies that help low wage workers build skills to prepare them for jobs paying family-sustaining wages, and to build and maintain their assets so they can be financially stable. The Director also provides direct supervision and coaching of financial stability staff, and is an integral member of the Community Impact Department’s management team.
Essential Functions:
Unit Leadership
Leads the development and implementation of strategies and operational plans to achieve the goals of United Way’s financial stability agenda.
Assists the Associate Vice President in long-range, short-range, and strategic planning for the financial stability area.
Builds United Way’s role in the region as a thought leader in the areas of adult education, workforce development and asset development, by keeping up to date on best practices, commissioning research and communicating findings to relevant audiences; and overseeing special local and regional initiatives.
Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including human service agencies, intermediaries and funders.
Works collaboratively with Resource Development staff to develop and implement strategies to raise funds for United Way’s financial stability initiatives.
Represents United Way on external committees, and at external meetings, forums, functions, and other events as needed, with the goal of increasing United Way’s visibility and leadership role within the community.
Departmental Responsibilities
Serves on departmental management team and helps develop strategies, policies and activities that advance departmental goals.
Advises and collaborates with Community Impact staff on financial stability initiatives coordinated by other departmental units, as needed.
Other Responsibilities
Serves on inter-departmental strategic initiative teams, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline required. Graduate Degree in relevant field preferred.
A minimum of ten (10) years relevant work experience, and requires a deep knowledge of one or more of the following service systems; adult education, workforce development, asset development.
A minimum of five (5) years experience supervising staff in a complex social services organization.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills; and have the ability and willingness to travel locally is required.
The successful candidate is highly motivated, skilled and a confident visionary with superior critical and strategic thinking skills.
He/she is a hands-on and able project manager with excellent judgment
This Director must be a team player who can work independently as well as work well with others to achieve United Ways goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate has a track record of interacting with multiple constituencies and managing their expectations successful; and has the ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders, peers, and staff.
He/she can work under pressure with tight deadlines, can effectively manage, organize and prioritize projects and workloads.
He/she is able to work in a participative and collaborative manner, to interact well with a diverse range of people, and to constructively give and receive feedback; and is proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
