OVERVIEW
The Director of Community Service at Bryn Mawr College provides overall leadership, energy, and inspiration in the development, administration, and evaluation of programs that support Bryn Mawr involvement with community service, activism, and social advocacy. The Director maintains and builds new partnerships, both within Bryn Mawr and in the broader community; promotes service and service learning among Bryn Mawr students, faculty, and administration; and administers the work of the Community Service Office. The position reports to the Dean of the College and requires availability during some evenings and some weekends.

THE DIRECTOR:
* Oversees, leads, and develops the Community Service Office’s major initiatives, which include: Community Service Work-Study, America Reads and America Counts, Summer of Service, The Harris Wofford Summer of National Service, AmeriCorps Service Scholars, Resource Library, Student-Led Service Group Transportation, Transportation Reimbursement, Community Service Mini-Grants, The Girls Empowerment Project, Owls on the Prowl, Student Service and Activism Council, annual service events, monthly workdays, and regular training, orientation, and reflection activities.

* In partnership with the Faculty Praxis Coordinator, oversees, leads and develops the Praxis Community Based Learning Program, including: the Praxis Council,
field sites and community partnerships, and Praxis course development

* Selects, trains and supervises Community Service and Praxis staff, including Praxis Field Placement Coordinator, Community Learning Coordinator, Program Assistant, Graduate Student Interns, student coordinators, and other student and professional staff.

* Remains conversant about, and active in, regional/national service and service-learning movements, acts as a resource for service-learning theory and Praxis
program development, and works collaboratively with faculty and other administrators to create programs and strengthen existing efforts that integrate service related fieldwork with academic rigor.

* Develops, facilitates, and sustains partnerships with and among faculty, staff, administrative offices, students and community organizations, and works with the Student Service and Activism Council and other administrative staff toward developing and implementing new programming, including collaborative service and activism events, volunteer recruitment, training, and reflection, and other volunteer resources.

* Provides support and guidance to students and student groups involved in community service, activism, and social advocacy.

* Oversees the Community Service budget and develops short and long term
vision for community service, activism, and community-based learning at Bryn Mawr.

* Oversees the preparation of office publications, including newsletters, brochures, and other public relations and training materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education Administration, or related discipline and a strong background in community service, service learning, and/or activism is
required, with a minimum of 3 years professional-level involvement. A strong commitment to liberal arts education, investment in the strength of student leadership, demonstrated success in program planning and implementation, ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators, and management and supervisory skills also required. Applicants must be able to demonstrate high level of initiative, strong speaking and writing skills, a commitment to diversity. Basic computer skills required, including word processing and database use; experience with additional software and with navigating and creating internet-based resources helpful.
