Job Opportunity: Development/membership associate (part-time/full-time)
Founded in 1994, Philadelphia Public School Notebook is an independent, nonprofit news service that serves as an information source and a voice for parents, students, teachers, and others in the community who are working for quality and equality in Philadelphia public schools. A bimonthly newspaper and extensive website (http://www.thenotebook.org) provide in-depth coverage of the schools.
POSITION SUMMARY
Support the Notebook’s efforts to increase individual and institutional giving, and in particular to develop its two-year-old membership program. Ensure continued growth in membership, donated income, and member engagement. Responsible for accuracy and integrity of member/donor database, for coordination of appeals and an annual fundraising event, for support on grantwriting, and other fundraising projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage fundraising calendar
• Coordinate development and production of fund appeals and membership renewal materials
• Play a major role in coordinating Notebook’s annual June Celebration
• Maintain member records and Notebook’s database (CiviCRM), generating lists and reports
• Process gifts, acknowledge contributions and fulfill membership benefits
• Serve as a customer service point of contact for all members
• Work with director to prepare grant proposals and reports
• Work with director and Board to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts of $1,000 and up from individuals, foundations and corporations
The position is currently planned as 3/5 time but with a possibility of expanding to 4/5 time or full-time by fall 2011. Additional responsibilities may focus on outreach and community engagement.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
A detail-oriented self-starter with strong development background, including: excellent project management skills; experience with donor and grants solicitation and stewardship of donor relationships; significant experience with data entry and database management; and experience with organizing fundraising events. Excellent writing skills. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, board, and volunteers. Community outreach skills and experience desirable. Interest in urban public education issues, commitment to the Notebook’s mission of educational quality and equity.
COMPENSATION
Competitive salary, generous paid leave. The organization’s cafeteria benefits plan, including health and dental, would only become available with 4/5 time status or more.
