Development Manager–Neighborhood Bike Works
Neighborhood Bike Works (NBW) is a nonprofit organization that provides educational, recreational, and career-building opportunities for urban youth in underserved neighborhoods in greater Philadelphia through bicycling; it also promotes cycling as a healthy, affordable, environment-friendly form of transportation. NBW provides after school and summer programming to youth, and space for adults to utilize bicycle tools and equipment during open workshop hours.
Position Summary: NBW is seeking a Full Time Development Manager to lead a wide-ranging fundraising strategy to support NBW’s youth programs and general operations. The Development Manager plans and implements Neighborhood Bike Works’ development strategy, working closely with the Executive Director to establish annual development goals and strategies. The Manager oversees major fundraising campaigns, communications, and grant proposals and takes the lead on two main aspects of NBW’s development operation: foundation grants and individual giving.
Reports to: Executive Director
Start Date & Schedule: Position starts in early January 2016. This is a Full-Time position totaling 40 hours per week. Some hours may be worked remotely.
Responsibilities:
1.Grant Writing, Reporting, and Relationships with Private Funding Sources (60%)
Prepare grant applications & reports in coordination with Executive Director and Program Director.
Maintain NBW’s grant application and reporting calendar.Research new private sources of support, including foundations and corporate sources.
Work with colleagues to develop strong case statements for Neighborhood Bike Works’ programs and special projects.
Manage schedule for regular, planned contact with foundations and corporate supporters. Work with Executive Director to maintain positive contact with funders throughout the year.
2.Individual Donor Campaigns (30%)
Coordinate two direct mail fundraising appeals (Annual Giving Campaign & Summer Camp Campaign). Prepare mailing lists and oversee distribution and follow up activities.
Lead donor recruitment and cultivation strategy, including for major donors, recurring donors, and new donors.
Research donor prospects and maintain donor records.
Support Executive Director and Board ofDirectors in donor cultivation and formal asks, by preparing cultivation materials and talking points, and managing individual donor cultivation plans.3.Other Activities (10%)
Prepare regular fundraising progress reports for NBW board meetings.Support and consult Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors to engage all members of the Board in effectively supporting NBW’s fundraising efforts.
Support NBW non-development staff in understanding and participating in fundraising activities, including preparing for site visits, training staff on communicating with the public, volunteers, and constituents as a part of the fundraising process.
Support and, in some cases, take the lead on communications activities, including writing content for e-newsletter, interfacing with graphic designer, and writing press releases.
Assist with or lead special fundraising events as needed.
Qualifications:
Past development experience, ideally in grant writing, individual donor campaigns and major donor cultivation.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to produce clear, compelling narratives quickly and confidently.
Willingness to work as a team player with other staff and the NBW board of directors.
Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail.
High degree of familiarity with computer use, social media, and ability to learn new fundraising database.
Sense of humor, patience, and flexibility. NBW is a collaborative and fast-paced work environment.

Successful passing of PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Clearance required
