Gearing Up – Position Description
Position title:             Development & Event Coordinator (DEC)
Reports directly to:         Executive Director
Service week (days/hours):    40 hours/week; longer hours and weekends as necessary
Compensation Range:     $38,000-$42,000; commensurate with education and experience
Benefits:             Health care available

Position Objective:
Gearing Up (http://www.gearing-up.org) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide women in transition from drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and/or homelessness with the skills, equipment and guidance needed to safely ride a bicycle for exercise, transportation and personal growth. The Development & Event Coordinator (DEC) will initiate, direct, coordinate, implement and evaluate all fundraising activities.  S/he will be a development professional with proven experience in securing the support and engagement of individual donors, corporations, and the Board.  S/he will also have extensive experience in helping nonprofits assess, plan for, and then build and diversify their revenue mix.  S/he will be primarily working in the areas of grant management, E-Tapestry management, annual fund, donor recognition, event organization and support, and committee meeting coordination to perform general fundraising duties and manage development initiatives for Gearing Up. The Development & Event Coordinator will help promote a culture of philanthropy internally and externally.

The focus of this position is to initiate, develop, maintain and implement annual development plan and strategy in collaboration with Executive Director through effective grant seeking, writing and reporting, event execution, and cultivation of major donors.  Responsibilities include grant management, event planning and execution, database (E-tapestry) management, support of realistic and successful funding and communication strategies and financial management and administrative duties as necessary, within reason.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
•    Bachelor’s degree required in related field; Master’s preferred
•    Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in fund-development and communications in an academic environment or non-profit, community-based setting. Experience using E-Tapestry or other Constituent Management Relationship (CRM) system required.
•    Demonstrated success in grant-proposal development and writing, experience in grants management and stewardship with private and corporate foundations.
•    Experience in coordinating and executing large-scale fundraisers and online campaigns desired.
•    Exceptional writing and oral communication skills. High level of attention to detail. Strong computing skills, including complete command of MS Office Suite.
•    Proven management experience and strong leadership skills
•    Excellent written communications, research, and organizational skills
•    Demonstrated ability to think strategically and understanding of strategic development
•    Strong event planning skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
•    High energy, positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork and attention to detail
•    Demonstrated understanding of Gearing Up’s philosophy and strong desire to advance the mission.
