WHY WORK AT SUMMER SEARCH

Summer Search is a dynamic, national nonprofit organization that identifies resilient low-income high school students and inspires them to become responsible and altruistic leaders. Through year-round mentoring, life-changing summer experiences, college advising, and a lasting alumni support network, students are supported to matriculate to and graduate from college while also learning the importance of giving back. Summer Search started in 1990 in San Francisco and has expanded to serve students in North San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley, Boston, New York, Seattle and Philadelphia.

Summer Search has a proven program model where 100% of our low-income students graduate from high school compared to 50% of their low-income peers. Ninety-five percent of Summer Search students go on to college, and while 11% of low-income students will earn a college degree nationwide, 90% of Summer Search college students are on track to graduate and earn their degree. Becoming part of the Summer Search team means making a difference in the lives of young people.

In the past five years, the organization has more than doubled the students served as a result of a successful national growth campaign. Today, the organization is in the early stages of implementing a five-year strategic growth plan to significantly scale its programs and further advance Summer Search as a force in the education and youth development fields. Specifically, Summer Search is poised to grow to serve 3,500 program participants and 4,500 alumni by 2017.
