Changemakers and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Announce Designing for Better Health Competition
Deadline: April 1, 2009
A project of Changemakers (http://www.changemakers.net/) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (http://www.rwjf.org/), Designing for Better Health is a collaborative competition designed to find innovative solutions based on the concept of “nudges” — innovative little pushes — that help people make better decisions regarding their own health and the health of others. The competition seeks novel and effective approaches that make it easier for people to make choices and change behavior toward their health.
A program of Ashoka, the Changemakers.net Web site provides an online, interactive forum that encourages collaboration and discussion, along with competition, to identify and strengthen the most effective ideas. Designing for Better Health is the fourth in a series of Changemakers’ collaborative competitions sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Pioneer Portfolio.
The competition is open to all types of organizations (charitable organizations, private companies, or public entities) from all countries. Entries must reflect the theme of the competition and demonstrate innovative solutions around financial transactions for social change. While the program supports new ideas at every stage and encourages their entry, only entries that indicate growth beyond the stage of idea, concept, or research are eligible for awards. At a minimum, entries should be at the demonstration stage and have some indication of success. Entries must be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
After the judges select the ten to fifteen finalists from the entire competition, the Changemakers online community will vote for three winners, who will receive $5,000 each. In addition, the best entry submitted by the early submission deadline of February 18, 2009, will win a camcorder and digital camera. The best entry received by April 1, 2009, will win a digital camera.
