The Urban Health Collaborative at the Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Deputy Director for Administration. The UHC is a multi-disciplinary research center focused on improving health in cities. Launched in 2015 the UHC has grown exponentially and is now internationally recognized for its work to advance urban health, health equity and environmental sustainability in the US and globally. Since its inception the UHC has secured >35 million in external funding, has supported trainees and training activities in urban health, and has partnered with community groups, public health practitioner and urban health networks in the US and globally to advance work to promote urban health. The UHC is committed to advancing an antiracist urban health agenda and ensuring that all its practices and policies advance antiracism and support diversity, equity and inclusion. The position will report to UHC Director Dean Dr. Ana Diez Roux.
The Deputy Director for Administration (DDA) is responsible for leadership and oversight of all UHC administrative and budgetary functions including the day-to day management of all UHC operations, including budgetary planning and tracking, research administration, human resources functions, space and general operations, strategic planning, and implementation and evaluation of the UHC strategic plan. The DDA will work closely with the UHC Director, the Deputy Director for Programs and Initiatives (DDP), UHC faculty core leads, and UHC Steering committee on all administrative functions and operations
The DPA will create and support a collaborative and inclusive work environment facilitating exchange and collaboration across the UHC and will also serve as the main point of contact for the UHC on administrative, budgetary, HR and space issues.
Essential Functions
Leadership and planning:
- Work with the UHC Director, Deputy Director for Programs and UHC Steering Committee to lead and coordinate updates and implementation of the UHC Strategic Plan in accordance with UHC values, goals, and resources
- Work with the UHC Director to develop budgetary projections and short and long-term financial plans and goals for the UHC.
- Plan for and continuously evaluate unit human resource needs
- Plan for and continuously evaluate space, IT and other resource needs
- Ensure compliance of all UHC procedures with university and external funder policies
Management functions:
- Oversee all UHC financial, HR , research administration, business and facilities operations
- Oversee proposal development and submission to sponsors for Center Investigators
- Assist the UHC Director in planning for and implementing regular UHC team meetings including UHC Steering Committee meetings, all-UHC meetings, regular meetings of core leads, and faculty meetings
- Develop implement and sustain regular staff engagement activities including project coordinator meetings and UHC staff meetings as necessary
- Develop, implement and evaluate career development activities for UHC staff
- Manage human resources needs for the Center including hiring, onboarding, performance reviews and separations from employment
- Manage and oversee all space needs including allocating space, tracking utilization, anticipating future needs and planning for space needs.
- Oversee all financial aspects of UHC research portfolio including projections/spending estimates and assist faculty and the Center Director in drafting and submitting regular reports to funders and partners
- Supervise Center business and administrative support staff including administrative support staff as well as pre and post award staff.
In collaboration with the Deputy Director for Programs, develop and track metrics to monitor strategic plan objectives
Communications:
- Oversee and manage all internal communications (within the UHC) including internal monthly note and all internal collaborations platforms (Teams etc)
Other:
- Represent the Director and the UHC as needed within and outside the University
- Other duties as assigned by the Director
