Applications Sought for Delaware Estuary Grants Program
Deadline: July 1, 2005

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (<a href="http://www.nfwf.org/">http://www.nfwf.org/</a>), in cooperation with the Delaware Estuary and other sponsors, has announced a Request for Proposals for approximately $600,000 in new funds under the 2005 Delaware Estuary Grants Program.

In its first two years, the program awarded fifty-eight grants totaling more than $1.1 million in federal and private funds to organizations working to restore living resources in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania — the three states that share the land and water in the 6,700-square mile Delaware Estuary.

The program seeks to encourage innovative, locally based programs or projects that restore important habitats and living resources within the Delaware Estuary; develop the capacity of local governments, citizens groups, and other organizations to promote community-based stewardship and enhance local watershed-based resource management; promote a greater understanding of the Delaware Estuary and the interrelationship between the health of the estuary and the condition of local watersheds; and strengthen the link between communities and the Delaware Estuary Program.

Public or nonprofit private agencies, institutions, and organizations; educational institutions; and units of local government are eligible for funding. Local governmental agencies are encouraged to involve nonprofit in their projects.

Under the 2005 program, grants of $5,000 to $35,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis, with larger amounts awarded to projects that directly address action items of the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan for the Delaware Estuary, or that otherwise demonstrate innovative approaches for improving the estuary. Matching funds are not required for this program.
