All are invited to join DelcoAD Group with Mayor Thomas Micozzie, Representative Margo Davidson, PathWays PA and the IRS as they celebrate EITC Awareness Day and the Kick-off the 2012 Tax Season
DelcoAD is joining the IRS, PathWays PA and Mayor Micozzie in raising awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit and kickoff the 2012 filing season. On National EITC Awareness Day, Friday, January 27th , DelcoAD will hold a press conference and outreach event from 1-2:00pm at 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby. The event will include remarks from Mayor Thomas Micozzie, State Representative Margo Davidson, IRS Pennsylvania Territory Manager Jim Daugherty and PathWays PA President and CEO Carol Goertzel and mark the opening of DelcoAD’s ten Volunteer Income Tax Preparation sites, where Delaware County residents earning less than $50,000 annually can receive free tax preparation.
National EITC Awareness Day is a nationwide observance to raise awareness of the impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit, which has been identified as one of the largest and most effective anti-poverty tools in the United States. Millions of workers each year overlook the federal tax credit simply because their earnings do not require them to file and/or they are unaware of the credit. Last year, on average, the credit boosted refunds for eligible workers by $2,100.
Many people will qualify for the first time this year due to economic changes in their income or changes in their marital or parental statuses according to the IRS. The agency estimates that only four out of five eligible workers currently claim their EITC, meaning one in five misses out on as much as $5,751 extra in their federal income tax refund.
