Delaware County College, University and Trade-school Students Needed for Help America Vote College Poll Worker Program, Delaware County, PA

Posted by Delaware County Elections Department on April 16, 2024

This month, Delaware County Elections Department received confirmation of a $45,000 grant under the Help America Vote College Program. The funds are for Delaware County college, university and trade-school students to work in paid positions in our election offices and our polling places at the 2024 and 2025 elections.  The program goal is to foster understanding of elections among our newest voters.

In our application, we identified options for a diverse range of students to serve in two ways:

  • Those who are US citizens (and who may or may not be registered voters in Delaware County) may work 3-hour to 8-hour shifts earning $18 an hour to assist with poll-worker training or in gathering and processing returns on Election Night, starting in April 2024.
  • Those who are registered to vote in Delaware County may serve as Election Day precinct poll workers, starting in April 2024.

Our grant proposal also allows for an extra $175 stipend to any “campus champion” who serves – and recruits at least five other students who serve successfully with us at the same election.

Our goal is to have 45 students countywide participate in each of the four elections in 2024 and 2025.  Longer term, our hope is to forge strong bonds between your campus and the Delaware County Elections Department.
