Herb Block Foundation Invites LOIs for Defending Basic Freedoms Program
When editorial cartoonist Herb Block died in October 2001, he left $50 million and instructions to create a foundation to encourage the art of editorial cartooning and to support charitable and educational programs that help promote and support the causes he championed during his seventy-two years of cartooning. As such, the Herb Block Foundation is committed to defending basic freedoms, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice, and improving the condition of the poor and underprivileged.
To advance this mission, the foundation welcomes applications for its Defending Basic Freedoms program, which awards grants ranging between $5,000 and $25,000 in support of efforts to safeguard the basic freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, help eliminate all forms of prejudice and discrimination, and assist government agencies to be more accountable to the public.
Letters of Inquiry are due June 4. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by August 6, 2020.
To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
See the Herb Block Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
Deadline: June 4, 2020 (Letters of Inquiry)
