About ASAP
ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships is a non-profit organization with the mission to keep Philadelphia youth (K-12) safe and active after school through structured enrichment programs. Through strategic partnerships with city agencies and community organizations, ASAP has become the fastest-growing facilitator of after school activities in Philadelphia, organizing 383 weekly enrichment clubs serving 5,550 youth in the 2012-13 school year. ASAP is a small organization, and the atmosphere is fast-paced and collaborative. We seek colleagues who are excited about working as part of a team to improve the lives of the city’s youth.
Job Description
ASAP is currently seeking candidates for its Debate and Drama Coordinator position with an expected start in Spring 2014. The Coordinator will oversee stewardship of the Philadelphia Scholastic Debate League, currently comprised of 36 middle and high school clubs, and the ASAP Drama initiative, currently numbering 15 elementary and middle school clubs.
Responsibilities:
– Recruit sites (e.g. schools, community centers, libraries) and individuals to host/lead debate and drama programs with special emphasis on serving communities with the greatest needs
– Facilitate regular trainings for new debate and drama club leaders
– Support existing debate and drama programs through periodic site visits, phone calls, weekly email
– Maintain relationships with partner organizations such as the School District of Philadelphia, Penn for Youth Debate, Lantern Theater Company, etc.
– Operate high school debate league, including Student Captains program (weekly October-December)
– Organize middle and high school debate tournaments year-round
– Organize end-of-year drama showcase for participating programs
– Collect student/club leader testimonials
– Gather student/club data and evaluate program effectiveness
– Manage debate and drama media: update webpages and event calendar on ASAP website, post photos to Facebook, contribute articles for ASAP’s monthly newsletters, work with communications department to post Facebook updates and blog posts.
Qualifications:
– Minimum bachelor’s degree
– Experience with outreach, youth development, and/or event-planning
– Exceptional communication and facilitation skills
– Strong writing skills
– Ability to multi-task, detail-oriented
– Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
– Experience with debate and/or drama is preferred, but not required
– Enthusiasm for helping young people achieve through extra-curricular passions
