C.B. Community Schools, Philadelphia (C.B.C.S.), is a vibrant, innovative high school serving a unique group of students who are involved with or have been involved with, The Department of Human Services and Philadelphia’s Juvenile Justice System. Our high school students are under-credited youth, have attended multiple schools, and are at increased risk of dropping out. Located in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, we are an independent school that serves students through an individualized, competency-based academic program and holistic environment. C.B. Community Schools uses a School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and restorative practice model based on a peace and justice framework.

Students are engaged and inspired to earn a High School Diploma by working with talented faculty in a culture that blends solid academics and social-emotional learning through a curriculum that encourages critical thinking, independent learning, and self-advocacy, our students develop into curious contributors to society.

Position Description

C. B. Community Schools is now reviewing applications for a talented, socially conscious Dean of Students. We are looking for a candidate committed to cultivating a positive academic experience for high school students involved in the Foster Care System.

The Dean of Students oversees our school culture and ensures students’ personal growth, social-emotional development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with youth and values the complex and diverse ways they approach the world at this stage in their lives. The Dean believes student-centered decision-making creates an atmosphere that benefits social-emotional and intellectual growth. C. B. Community School’s Dean of Students provides proactive leadership in delivering programs and services to support students’ personal and social-emotional development.

The Dean is also responsible for all issues relating to students’ behavior, conflict management, and restorative and trauma-informed practices. Working closely with the Director of Social Emotional Learning and the Head of School, the Dean coordinates all restorative justice responses to student infractions and routine accountability. Central to this work, in collaboration with the Director of Education, the Dean develops growth programs for students and faculty centered around social-emotional and restorative justice programming. In addition, the Dean supports and advises the Director of Social Emotional Learning and assists with initiatives that pertain to student accountability or behavior.

The Dean of Students leads all efforts to build and maintain strong, positive, mutually respectful relationships with students and caregivers. This position is a visible presence in all areas of the school.

The successful Dean of Students will prioritize identity, affinity, justice, and equity as essential to students’ belonging and positive school culture. The Dean works with all school Leadership toward upholding C. B. Community Schools community’s expectations.
