Day of Service for Presidential Inauguration
Posted by on January 07, 2013
The Fifty-Seventh Presidential Inauguration will take place on January 21, 2013. Many of you are preparing for another big event that falls on that same weekend – the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. In the same spirit of empowering citizens and strengthening our communities, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has marked Saturday, January 19th as a National Day of Service.
Please see below an invitation from the PIC to get involved that day. If you already have an MLK Day project in the works, that’s great – consider registering your project as part of the Inaugural Day of Service. If you don’t yet have something planned, this is a great opportunity to get involved. For project ideas, visit http://MLKDay.gov and take a look at our toolkits.
Friend,
On Saturday, January 19th, thousands of volunteers from all across the nation are coming together to participate in a National Day of Service, a tradition started by the Obamas at the President’s first Inauguration, to honor our shared values and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Your organization is receiving this email because we are in the process of identifying partners for the event. We would love to talk to your organization about being involved.
As you know, the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday falls on January 21st, and is marked by one of the largest days of service for citizens across the country. We are pleased to support and align these efforts and look forward to a full weekend of service.
There are a number of ways to be involved in the National Day of Service on January 19th. Our biggest priority is working with partner organizations to help promote service events to a large network of citizens all across the country. If your organization is based in Washington, D.C., we are also putting together a service fair in addition to helping create and promote local service projects.
We are asking all interested organizations to fill out a short online form telling us about the work you do. Please take a few minutes to tell us about your organization and how you might be interested in participating in the National Day of Service.
Please complete the form by Friday, December 21st. A Presidential Inaugural Committee staff member will review your submission and be in contact shortly.

Thank you again for your commitment to service. We look forward to the possibility of working with you on this exciting day!
