Request for Proposals for Curriculum Specialist
JUNTOS, a Latino immigrant-led community organization based in South Philadelphia, seeks a curriculum specialist experienced in working with community-based organizations and utilizing “popular education” methodologies to train community members about issues that they define as central in their lives. Over a six month period this specialist will do the following.
• Convene JUNTOS staff and key leaders in the organization to form a working group to participate in the development of the curriculum.
• The contents of the curriculum will include: (1) issues that affect the immigrant community [education, immigration reform, internal and external oppression]; (2) specific concrete skills- building [organizing, media/public relations, leadership, etc.]
• The curriculum will utilize a popular education framework, which incorporates participatory methodologies to define the key issues that impact on their lives, analyze root causes of those challenges, set priorities for organizing, develop campaigns and strategies, analyze the effectiveness of their work, and refine their strategies based on what they have learned.
• The curriculum will be bilingual, in Spanish and English.
• The curriculum will have components which focus on basic community organizing/ leadership as well as more advanced leadership skills for more experienced participants.
• The curriculum will be piloted with JUNTOS staff and community leaders, and finalized, based on feedback.
• Preferably, the consultant should be bilingual.
