Part I: Creating Authentic Opportunities for Youth Leadership
How do we engage returning youth in ways that enhance their professional growth while strengthening our organization? Come learn new strategies for effectively incorporating the experiences and knowledge of older/returning youth. Explore the role of near-peer mentoring in building youth-friendly cultures, modeling those values, and establishing community amongst new and younger participants Learn how to cultivate a space that not only says you value youth contributions but that provides an outlet for that to happen.
PART II: COLLABRATORY!
Learn how to combine the first-hand experiences of participants with the organizational know-how of staff to create shared goals around organizational initiatives. Attendees will bring one youth member of their organization to the workshop where we will demonstrate how co-learning environments can bring about collective decision making. We will revisit the activities/programs designed in Part one and or current leadership opportunities that your organization has for youth allowing the youth to provide feedback. Some potential topics to brainstorm could be recruitment, engagement, teambuilding, etc. This is a unique opportunity to explore the perspective of your youth around organizational issues which is critical to ensuring a well-functioning, well-led program.
