New toolkit outlines strategies for improving attendance
Chronic absence can lead to third graders’ inability to master reading, sixth graders failing courses and ninth graders dropping out of high school.
America’s Promise and other organizations have come together to name September as Attendance Awareness Month. This week the partnership released a toolkit to help schools and communities start planning for September’s activities. It details how everyone in the community-parents, faith leaders, housing authority workers, businesses, afterschool programs, mayors and, of course, educators-can get involved.
