Position Objective:
To coordinate and supervise construction activity and personnel, including AmeriCorps members, volunteers, partner families and paid contractors in accordance with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia plans, specifications and quality requirements.
Key Responsibility Area: Site Supervision
Sets schedule and regularly reports progress and needs to Director of Construction
Responsible for supervision of job site
Supervises layout and site preparation including purchase of materials, scheduling deliveries, preparation for volunteer work days
Schedules inspections from construction start to finish, schedules subcontractors
Responsible for site cleanliness, organization and safety. Implements HFHP safety practices and ensures all employees and volunteers adhere to HFHP safety policies
Accountable for security of worksite and inventory of tools and materials
Creates monthly, weekly and daily work plans for sites. Shares work plans with key staff, AmeriCorps and volunteers
Prepares, schedules and supervises completion of punch list
Work week is Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30am – 4:00pm
Key Responsibility Area: Supervision of AmeriCorps and Volunteers
Leads, manages and productively engages AmeriCorps, partner families and volunteers in construction
Manages, supervises and trains AmeriCorps in construction with attention to mentoring and developing leadership and construction skills
Evaluates AmeriCorps through formal and informal performance reviews
Works closely with Volunteer Coordinator to create volunteer schedules; implement and maintain a Volunteer Core; and reports to Volunteer Coordinator with feedback on volunteers
Identifies volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and communicates needs to Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Construction
Key Responsibility Area: Project Management
Refines schedules and budget estimates with the Director of Construction; updates schedules and budgets on a regular basis
Gathers bids and hires subcontractors, communicates to Director of Construction
Key Responsibility Area: Other Tasks and Responsibilities
Works with Warranty Carpenter on complaints and repairs as necessary
Additional tasks as assigned by Director of Construction and Executive Director
Manages vendors and subcontractors contact list
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and have the desire to promote it
Considerable knowledge in the construction/contracting business, minimum 2 years of related job experience
Construction management experience preferred
Licensed electrician or plumber would be a plus
Professional attitude and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with unskilled volunteers and in diverse populations. Team building / volunteer leadership experience a real plus.
Strong communication, planning and organizational skills
Basic proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Excel. Experience with MS Project a plus.
Must have a valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements to Perform Duties:
Ability to perform all construction duties, such as lifting up to 80 lbs, climbing extension ladders and scaffolding, ability to work from a kneeling position, etc
