Connecting College’s and University’s to theTax Preparation Field

Posted by on September 3, 2007

Universities are located in every state and community and can be an incredible resource to an EITC Campaign/ free tax preparation program. This call will explore how to cultivate a relationship with your local post-secondary institutions, including community college, state universities, HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), and private institutions. By cultivating a lasting relationship that is designed to grow over time, so will your EITC Campaign as you increase your volunteer capacity, community commitment and involvement, and long term program sustainability, as universities are likely to be here for the long haul (even if you?re not!). In this call, you will hear from Campaigns who have managed to cement the involvement of students and universities by transforming volunteerism into a three credit academic/ service learning experience for students. The call will focus on:

1. How to jump start the relationship with the universities.
2. How to develop and teach a variety of courses to meet the volunteer needs of your Campaign.
3. How to engage students in a meaningful committed way.
4. How to evaluate your efforts and improve the results over time.
