Congress is Home for August Recess – Now’s the Time to Speak Up for Service and AmeriCorps

Posted by Voices for National Service on August 18, 2026

It has been a busy summer for service and it’s not over yet! As Congress heads home for August recess, America’s governors are calling for expanding service opportunities and new AmeriCorps grants are arriving in communities across the country. Here’s what you need to know and how you can get involved.

Congress is Home for August Recess – Now’s the Time to Speak Up!

Over the past few months, you’ve been making your voices heard in DC to protect and invest in AmeriCorps funding – and it is working! With bipartisan support, the House has advanced a strong fiscal year 2027 funding proposal for AmeriCorps, rejecting the Administration’s proposal to eliminate the agency.

While Congress must still complete work on FY27 funding later this year, members are now home for August recess – and they need to keep hearing from you. If you haven’t contacted Congress recently to show your support for AmeriCorps, now is the perfect time to take action.

Contact Your Members of Congress

August recess is one of the best windows of the year to remind members of Congress that AmeriCorps is making a difference in their states and districts. A site visit, meeting, op-ed, or an email can go a long way toward reminding your senators and representatives that AmeriCorps needs their support.

Check out our Advocate’s Guide to AmeriCorps & Appropriations, that has templates and tools for planning site visits, meetings, media outreach, and more.

Your engagement during August recess will help us build momentum as Congress returns to complete work on AmeriCorps funding.
