Conference on College Composition & Communication Invites Applications for Research Initiative

The Conference on College Composition & Communication is inviting applications for its 2020-21 Research Initiative.

The program seeks proposals aimed at investigating key challenges faced by literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing instructors and administrators in their classrooms and programs. Proposals should directly address the impact that the proposed research might have on disciplinary and public conversations around these topics. Proposals must also convey results in at least two final products: one that is addressed to a scholarly audience of researchers and teachers in the field, and one for a clearly specified audience beyond those in the field.

This year’s research topics are focused on persistent gaps in research. To that end, the CCCC seeks evidence to support new and revised position statements related to these issues, particularly evidence that can be made available to and inform public stakeholders outside of academic audiences; a clearer understanding of the implications of class size; the implications of grading diverse learners in classrooms that enact students’ right to their own languages; assessments of the transfer from dual-credit programs of students’ writing knowledge; work with diverse learners in writing and communication programs (e.g., neurodiversity, linguistic diversity, economic diversity, sociocultural diversity); the centering of writing and communication research in two-year colleges; and the development of literacy in diverse contexts (e.g., K–12 classrooms, workplaces, churches, bars, prisons, sporting events, courts) and the navigation of the relationship between these contexts.

Proposals asking for up to $10,000 will be funded.

To be eligible, principal investigators must be a member of CCCC at the time of application.

See the CCCC website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, and a list of previous awardees.

Deadline: September 1, 2020
