The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) continues its technical assistance discussion series designed to specifically address topics such as mentoring, prisoner reentry, family strengthening, and partnership building.
PRIMARY AUDIENCE:
* Senior Corps Project Directors
* Learn and Serve America Directors
* AmeriCorps Directors
* CNCS State Office Staff
* HHS new grantees
* Community and Faith-Based organizations expressing an interest in partnering with CNCS
PURPOSE OF THIS DISCUSSION:
* To provide distance technical assistance to project and program directors with information on implementing a school-based program for mentoring children of incarcerated parents and school-based mentoring
* To provide access to:
* a promising practice from the field with a proven successful model for addressing the needs of children whose parent/parents are incarcerated
* a promising practice from the field with the successful model for school-based mentoring, and
* a featured guest (s) in the field who has experience and knowledge in the area of establishing school-based mentoring programs
* To provide a venue in which project and program directors can ask questions and gain insight on setting up and partnering with a mentoring program
* To acquaint participants with available resources in the area of school-based mentoring children of incarcerated parents.
GOALS:
* Participants will further enhance their understanding on why mentoring children whose parents are incarcerated is important
* Participants will learn about a successful school-based mentoring model
* Participants will acquire three resources from this call to use in executing their projects and programs
* Participants will learn information from the call that they can share with other projects and programs in their state
