Computer Science Teacher AmeriCorps
Posted by Corporation for National and Community Service on February 1, 2016
Last week, President Obama announced his plan to give all students across the country the chance to learn computer science in school—and national service is at the forefront of this effort.
Below are excerpts from the President’s Weekly Message:
“So I’ve got a plan to help make sure all our kids get an opportunity to learn computer science, especially girls and minorities. It’s called Computer Science For All. And it means just what it says – giving every student in America an early start at learning the skills they’ll need to get ahead in the new economy.
[S]tarting this year, we’re leveraging existing resources at the National Science Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service to train more great teachers for these courses.
… I’ll be pulling together governors, mayors, business leaders, and tech entrepreneurs to join the growing bipartisan movement around this cause.”
I am so proud that Computer Science Teachers AmeriCorps is part of this initiative to increase the number of computer science teachers nationwide to meet the current level of interest by students in learning to code.
As the President mentioned, we are partnering with the National Science Foundation and collaborating with 100Kin10 to train thousands of teachers in computer science over the next three years.
