2006 SEASON CSA ANNOUNCEMENT

Please forward this announcement to others who may be interested

Time to join a CSA – Community Supported Agriculture! (see definition below)

Support a local farm and get fresh and healthful produce for you and your family every week from June into November. With a CSA share you know where your food is from.

Red Earth Farm and Covered Bridge Produce offer weekly deliveries of their farm-fresh vegetables and fruit to many Philadelphia area communities. Covered Bridge Produce is a certified organic farm and Red Hill Farm has applied for organic certification. Farm to City is assisting both farms to find members for their CSAs.

Go to http://farmtocity.org/MarketList.asp?view=csa for crop lists and other details about these farms as well as on-line CSA application forms. Discount for early joining (by March 15 for Red Earth; March 31 for Covered Bridge Produce).

Both farms are Member Choice CSAs: members can go on-line every week to select the items they want in their box.

Delivery to many locations in and around Philadelphia.

Fruit is available through member choice or a separate fruit share.

Community Supported Agriculture, or "CSA," is a mutually-beneficial arrangement between community members and a local farmer in which the farmer provides produce during the growing season in exchange for payment before the season begins. Each week of the growing season, the farmer harvests the mature crops and divides the produce into "shares," typically one for each member of the CSA operation. In Traditional CSAs, the produce supplied in the weekly share boxes is the same for each member. In Member Choice CSAs, members can select the crops they want each week from a list of crops that are ready to harvest. Farmers deliver the share boxes to pre-arranged locations for members to pick up, or members pick up their shares directly from the farm.
