United Communities Southeast Philadelphia, the lead agency for SouthEast Philadelphia Collaborative, has an immediate opening for a full-time Community Outreach Associate. This is an AmeriCorps position in partnership with EducationWorks.

The Southeast Philadelphia Collaborative (SEPC) informs, educates and organizes a broad and diverse network of community partners, policymakers and stakeholders to leverage greater access to resources and opportunities that address the needs of youth in Southeast Philadelphia. Working collaboratively under the shared mission of coordinating youth and adult partnerships to provide and promote youth development and leadership opportunities in Southeast Philadelphia, SEPC helps nurture and empower youth to be leaders and positive contributors in the Southeast Philadelphia community.

Responsibilities/Duties • Assist SEPC staff in the planning and implementation of gatherings and other youth activities. This will include youth outreach and relationship building, attendance at events and programs, connecting to other organizations and partners to plan educational activities. • Lead engagement and coordination efforts for Food Day, a month long, city-wide awareness and networking project to promote healthy eating, local food and food access .This will include hands-on work in executing events and programs throughout the month with community and youth. • Lead engagement, promotion/outreach and coordination efforts with our youth on planning and hosting a Youth Summit in Philadelphia which will include hands-on execution of workshops and awareness events concerning healthy eating and physical activity. • Assist with After School Idol Talent Show, our annual Collaborative event, which highlights our youth and their visual, singing, dancing and musical talents at the Kimmel Center. This will include hands-on outreach and visits to local businesses and other youth-serving agencies in Philadelphia as well as coordination and execution of a large scale community event. • Lead efforts with maintenance, improvement and awareness of our two youth run community gardens and South Philly Teen Orchard. • Collaborate with our Youth Leadership Council and network of Teen Lounges in an effort to aid in youth recruitment and retention and plan and execute various leadership and programmatic opportunities. Skill Requirements • Interest in youth development and leadership, food systems and community capacity and relationship building • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Project management skills including planning and implementing in a hands-on way various community and youth engagement and educational opportunities including programs and events • Public speaking skills and comfort in presenting at community events and meetings, as well as making personal outreach throughout contacts in South Philadelphia • Ability to interact with a diverse set of stakeholders, including all types of neighborhood residents, youth and program and other network and partner agency staff • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in an efficient manner • Interest in mentoring youth as they develop into leaders and become empowered to make change in their communities • Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours as needed for events and programming
