Posted by HE-SVE Forum on May 12, 2020
A recent post on the HE-SVE (Higher Education-Student Voter Engagement) Forum asked for folks to sharer Community Engaged Learning (CEL) course syllabi and resources that focus on election engagement from all disciplines and particularly any virtual CEL work that has been done in this area.
Here are responses:
Dr. Trogden just lead a tremendous panel for an AAC&U Faculty Friday discussion on bringing CLDE into the classroom you can see the recording and slides here — https://www.aacu.org/events/democracy-despite-disruption-improving-student-voter-engagement-through-pedagogy.
Here are faculty resources that the Campus Election Engagement Project (CEEP) has put together: https://campuselect.org/ceeps-covid-19-response/. CEEP also recently hosted Nancy Thomas in which she specifically talked about faculty and covid: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h_wnKXwGvct5tTuqoRbZzPBl3kVGpp9Y/view.
CEEP’s faculty resources page includes elections related course readings, approaches, and topics and suggestions for various disciplines on treating COVID as a teachable moment.
NASPAA has a list of its members who are offering courses/certificates in election administration who you could reach out to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nAn1na4qeRFox0YZABEROHQ2jcMexCOUxjn5j9OnwaY/edit#gid=0 . Its election administration section put together a Course Framework and Competencies for Election Administration. They are available here: naspaa.org/resources/initiatives/naspaa-civic-engagement/election-administration-commons.
Tufts University’s Institute for Democracy & Higher Education is in the midst of analyzing elections-themed syllabi and will have a report coming soon with recommended topics, readings, assignments, etc. They will be sharing it on their website (idhe.tufts.edu), Twitter @TuftsIDHE, and newsletter (https://idhe.tufts.edu/form/sign-up-idhe-updates).
