A community development model–the foundation of campus-community partnerships
Authored by CCPH Fellow Joyce Krothe, this project is a monograph that extends the implementation of a community development model from nursing to other academic disciplines designing service-learning projects. The information can be used as a guide for curricular development, planning and evaluation. Extension of a community development model for service-learning from nursing to other academic disciplines has the potential to build sustained community-campus partnerships and result in learning outcomes for students that exceed the parameters of an isolated project in a given semester. It also provides an opportunity for students to enhance the civic and social responsibility components described as essential to service-learning in education. This project will advance the concept of community development as a foundation for sustainable service-learning education beyond the discipline of nursing.
