LISC, ESPN Issues RFP for Community Basketball Court Program
The Local Initiatives Support Corporation has issued a Request for Proposals for its LISC/ESPN Pilot Home Court Program.
A collaboration between ESPN and LISC, the program provides nonprofit neighborhood-based organizations, middle schools, and high schools with financing and technical assistance for use in improving the quality, safety, and accessibility of local basketball courts in selected markets. Because they offer opportunities for recreation and relaxation that can contribute to local health and quality of life, especially for young people, basketball courts can be tremendous community assets.
The LISC/ESPN Home Court Program is intended not only to respond to the immediate shortage of athletic courts, but also to build an infrastructure through partnerships and resident involvement that sustains open court spaces for community use. To that end, grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded in support of capital projects that include the installation/refurbishment of basketball court flooring, hoops, nets, backboards, scoreboards, bleachers, and/or fencing.
To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit community-based organization registered as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or a middle or high school. In addition, all organizations applying for funds must serve low- to moderate-income areas located in Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Houston, Memphis, Atlanta, or Los Angeles.
For complete program guidelines and application procedures, see the LISC website.
Deadline: January 31, 2018
