March 24 Audioconference on Local Civic Engagement Strategies

Is your city looking to engage local residents more effectively?  On Thurs., March 24, at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time, the YEF Institute and National League of Cities’ Center for Research and Innovation will host a free, hour-long audioconference on “Community Attachment and Civic Engagement: Key Lessons and Opportunities for Municipal Leaders.”

Speakers on this call – including representatives from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and NLC – will highlight effective civic engagement strategies, with particular attention to innovative technology approaches, youth involvement, promoting inclusion and civility, and engaging residents more deeply in democratic governance.  The audioconference will draw upon ideas from the Knight Foundation’s Soul of the Community initiative and from two of NLC’s new action guides, “Beyond Civility: From Public Engagement to Problem Solving” and “Authentic Youth Civic Engagement: A Guide for Municipal Leaders.”  Listeners will gain further insight into the factors that increase residents’ attachment to and involvement in their communities.

No phone registrations can be accepted. At least one day prior to the audioconference, each registrant will receive an e-mail providing a toll-free, dial-in number.  Registration for the audioconference will close by the end of the day on Tues., March 22.  For questions about the audioconference, please contact Michael Karpman at (202) 626-3072 or [email protected].
