COMMUNITY ACTIVISM & CULTURAL WORK
** a 2-day pedagogy workshop utilizing a learning circles format**
facilitated by Nelda Pearson (http://www.beansandrice.org) and Awele Makeba (http://www.awele.com)
May 27th 6pm-10pm
May 28th 8am-5pm
DESCRIPTION: This interactive workshop is designed for those who wish to develop their skills in using cultural work to enhance creating community for learning and social justice settings. Two activist scholars, Nelda Pearson and Awele Makeba, will work with the group using a learning circle format. Participants are encouraged to bring their own cultural work for discussion including, but not limited to, poems, videos, dance, music (including CD’s by known activist-artists), stories, and drama to use in this workshop. This workshop is offered as a pre-conference event at the annual Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed conference at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
