Agency Description:
The Mayor’s Office of Education provides leadership to improve education in the City of Philadelphia. To achieve this mission, MOE creates policies and programs to:
- Expand access to quality pre-K for Philadelphia families;
- Create Community Schools designed to strengthen local schools by removing barriers to student success;
- Facilitate collaboration and partnership among many stakeholders to strengthen the local education landscape; and
- Advance key educational policy
Job Description
This position supports the public relations, digital communications, and community engagement efforts of the Mayor’s Office of Education. The Communications Manager reports to the Communications Director and works closely with program staff, partner organizations, and other City departments to promote and support the activities of the Mayor’s Office of Education including the Office’s signature programs, PHLpreK and Community Schools.
Salary Range: $45-50k/yr
Essential Functions:
- Supports development and implementation of digital strategy and public engagement plans to support Office goals
- Oversees social media strategy, implementation, and analytics
- Prepares content for phila.gov/education, phlprek.org, and all electronic messaging and communications
- Oversees email marketing including content creation and list management
- Oversees press clipping and photo archives
- Supervises interns/volunteers
- Assists with drafting public statements, talking points, speeches, press releases, and written testimony for MOE staff, as needed
- Offers training and ongoing professional development for MOE staff on digital best practices
- Represents agency at community outreach events and meetings, as needed
- Assists in procurement of promotional collateral
- Assists in coordination of press conferences and events
- Prepares electronic and print materials, as needed
Qualifications
- B/A or B/S from an accredited four-year college or university
- 2-4 years of experience in media relations, digital strategy, and/or program communications
- Spanish language skills, conversational and/or written, strongly preferred
