Communications Intern
The Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC) is seeking a Communications Intern to assist the Program Manager in its Community and Economic Development Division launch new communications services and products for the Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Club program. GPUAC is a nonprofit social service agency that ?brings business and community together to solve urban problems.? The FAN Club program is designed to empower low- to moderate-income individuals to combat the effects of predatory lending and unhealthy financial habits through education and peer support. FAN Club members meet monthly on a regular basis to receive financial instruction from a financial expert and share specific encouragement and advice with one another as each member works toward a particular financial goal.
The Communications Intern will assume the following responsibilities:
– Develop and launch a FAN Club newsletter for club members
– Assist the Program Manager to plan and coordinate the annual FAN Club conference
– Coordinate media relations with the Communications Department and write press releases
– Assist the Program Manager in expanding the intern program by conducting effective outreach to local universities to recruit student volunteers
Skills and qualities needed:
– Strong written and oral communication skills
– Good organizational skills and ability to ?multi-task?
– Ability to take initiative in responding to problems and finding creative solutions
– A self-starter that can also work well on a team and follow instructions well
– Background in finances not required
Start date: June 6, 2005
End date: To be negotiated (preferably six months to one year)
Work schedule: Part-time, approximately 10-15 hours a week.
This position is a volunteer, unpaid internship. Reimbursement for monthly SEPTA Trans-/Trailpass during the period of the internship can be arranged.
